In 2021, Sonja perfected her English with EF Bournemouth. Despite quarantine, Sonja was able to enjoy her language trip to the fullest.
1. How did you experience your trip?
I got on the plane with a queasy feeling and wondered if I would find friends and whether the EF employees in England would be as helpful as in Switzerland. After all, if you go into a new situation, you are always a little afraid of a negative experience.
As soon as I arrived in London, however, this feeling disappeared. I was greeted with a smile and drove to the EF residence in Bournemouth.
There I spent 2 weeks in the mandatory quarantine, but I never felt alone. I met my future classmates in exciting online sections and already found the first friends. There is something for everyone with the diverse possibilities-day trips, for example to London or Oxford, sporting activities such as football, ping pong or beach volleyball and film evenings. Already on the first day of school after the quarantine, I was able to establish friendships with students from all over the world who can still stop 2 years after the language stay.
2. Where did you live during your stay and how did you experience that?
After the quarantine, I was picked up by a taxi that brought me to my host family. My roommate from Chile was already waiting in a taxi, with whom I shared my room for the next 10 weeks. Our host family welcomed us very warmly. They showed us the city and led us to beautiful places around Bournemouth, which we later presented our friend. We were also spoiled with culinary delights. We met delicious English dishes while cooking and baking together.
3. What did you take from the voice stay?
During my language stay in England, I discovered fantastic places and had unforgettable experiences, which I would like to think back to. Not to forget the close friendships that I have closed.
