Hello my name is Viktoria and I was with me for a month EF in New York, Tarrytown.
It has always been my biggest dream to fly to New York. After passing my Abitur this summer, I decided to realize this dream.
My time on the campus in Tarrytown
The campus in Tarrytown is huge and impressive. The architecture reminded me of what you imagine when you think of the famous university campuses from Oxford or Harvard. Cool: The sports center with a swimming pool and even a Starbucks are available on the Campuus. But what I really remember were people. It was great to meet so many people from a wide variety of countries.
Friendships that stay
Some friendships particularly stood out, like those of my two roommates: Lili from Hungary and Amanda from Poland. We quickly made friends, and it was just beautiful to spend the time with them – be it to chat the nights, have breakfast together or take the train to New York City.
A lively campus
At first I had concerns that it could get boring in Tarrytown because the campus is a bit outside. But these worries were completely unfounded. The campus was always alive, and EF offered numerous activities – as decorating cookies or painting cups – so that it never got bored. It was not always necessary to go to New York to have fun. I also had a lot to do in Tarrytown.
My EF trip to the Statue of Liberty
One of the highlights of my trip was the tour to the Statue of Liberty. We drove from Tarrytown to Manhattan with a yellow school bus-as you know it from American high school films. That was mega!
After driving on the ferry, we reached the Statue of Liberty and stood very close to her. The visit of Ellis Island was also impressive. On the excursion I also met a nice girl from Portugalbefore the bus picked us up again.
What this trip means for me
I am proud that I had the courage to travel to a foreign country alone. It was one of the best decisions of my life. This month I not only learned a lot about New York, but above all about myself. This experience showed me how much you can achieve when you dare to overcome your fears.
