A dropout does not always have to mean the end of the world. Quite the opposite! Many only find their dream job or destination after the abortion. However, you should think carefully beforehand whether you really want to take this step. Just don't feel like having or unmotivated, there are no good reasons to give up something overnight in which you have already put a lot of energy, time and money.
Reasons for a dropout
There are a wide variety of reasons to stop studying. Sometimes you have the decision in your hand and sometimes it just shouldn't be.
-
Overwhelming: If you feel continuously overwhelmed and the first health problems are already noticeable, you should rethink your studies or at least the way to tackle it.
-
A lack of motivation or professional reorientation: Perhaps after the first semesters you will find that the field of study is not like you and that you only chose it, because your family wanted it to be so close to home or you had to make a decision quickly after graduation. In this case, it is advisable to think about where your own strengths and interests are and then changing the subject or completely reorienting yourself.
-
Financial problems: Studying is expensive – not studying itself, but accommodation, meals and other monthly costs. However, not every student has rich parents or receives Bafög. Most students therefore work alongside their studies. But for some, perhaps the abortion and direct entry into professional life may be a better option.
-
Exametriculation: Sometimes students have no choice but to cancel their studies because they have finally not passed an examination and have been de -registered. Even if this feels like this at first, this is not the end of the world!
According to a study by the German Center for University and Science Research GmbH (DZHW), the engineering subjects (36 percent) as well as in mathematics and the natural sciences (39 percent) are particularly common. But all other degree programs also have a significant way of breaking off rates in the double -digit range. So you see: there are many students who cancel and you are not alone!
Alternatives to study – what are the ways?
Even if you are plagued by self -doubt and fear of the future after an abortion, there is always an alternative and most of the dropouts are more happier than before. You can find support, for example, at the employment office and the universities themselves have advice centers for dropouts.
-
Change of technical: Maybe the course was just not the right one for you! If this is the case, you can still attend other lectures while you are inscribed for your degree course and find out what you really like. As soon as you are sure, you can be described in the examination office for the new studies. In some cases, this can also mean the change of university.
-
dual study: If you have lacked the practical part when studying, the dual system may be better suited for you. Here you not only learn theory, you can also get to know the practical side of the profession and also earn money.
-
Education: Perhaps the theory and intensive learning were simply not at your studies. In this case, vocational training can be a good alternative. So you can still get your dream job, but you already earn money and gain work experience.
-
Entry into professional life: Perhaps you are one of the degrees of study who have found their calling for an internship or part -time job during their studies. If you notice that you are more interested in working in your part -time job than studying and you can hardly find the lectures, the change to professional life may be the logical step for you.
-
Internship: Internships have the great advantage that you can sniff into different professions and get to know everyday work and company processes. Perhaps you will even get the chance for direct entry. If you do your internship abroad, you can also gain international work experience and thereby polish up your application folder.
Use the time out for a stay abroad
A stay abroad is ideal if you first need a break away from all problems and want to think about the future in peace. A stay abroad is also good in your curriculum vitae, because you show employers that you master foreign languages and are open and independent (“social skills” are also in demand).
The possibilities for a stay abroad are diverse:
-
Language trips: You can use your time out to improve your foreign language skills. During language trips you not only learn a foreign language, but also includes new friendships and immerse yourself in a foreign culture.
-
Voluntary work: If you want to get your head off everyday life and your own problems, volunteer work is a good option – for example with an aid project or in environmental protection. In the event of volunteer work, you not only have the certainty of doing something good and helping others, you also gain a lot of new experiences that can prove to be useful in your later life.
-
Work & Travel: Work & Travel programs are particularly popular with abortions and most of them are drawn to Australia, although of course other countries are also suitable. Work & Travel means that you travel the country and work on the side to make money. In larger cities, for example, you work as a kitchen aid or at the cash register, while you usually help farm work in rural areas.
So you see, there are a number of ways to find your way after a study of study!
