My name is Jolina, I am 19 years old, and in the summer of 2023 I fulfilled a dream: a three -week language trip with EF after new York – a time that has changed everything.
I have always been fascinated by American culture, the infinite possibilities and this special vibe that is only known from films. I also wanted to improve my English and just get out of my comfort zone. When I discovered on social media EF and ordered the catalog, it was clear: this is my chance!
The anticipation was huge – from the moment I booked the trip in early 2023, I couldn't think of anything else. I collected countless “must-see”, scrolled Tiktok after Insider tips And made a Google Maps card with all the places that I absolutely wanted to visit. My packing list also got longer and longer because I definitely didn't want to forget anything.
When it finally started, I was just excited – more anticipation than nervousness. I could hardly stop grin, so I was looking forward to this adventure.
When I arrived in New York, I was picked up by the EF shuttle and brought directly to the campus. The first day of school started with an orientation event in a huge auditorium – everything was excitingly new. And then? It went straight to the Rockefeller Center! My adventure couldn't have started better.
Of course, the acclimatization was a small struggle. The first few days I was homesick, talked to my parents every day and fought with the jet lag. But everyday life helped: new people, exciting experiences and small challenges that I mastered step by step. The language barrier? Was hardly a thing. Sure, at the beginning it was unusual to speak English all day, but I quickly noticed: it's not about perfection – the main thing is that you get away.
The campus itself was simply Next Level-huge and just like in the American high school films. I shared my four -room room with girls from the Netherlands, China and Mexico – a colorful mix that enriched my life. There was a swimming pool, a large sports field and even a 7-eleven supermarket directly around the corner. From the beginning, the atmosphere was so open and warm that I immediately felt comfortable.
But the very best on this trip? The people. I already met Chloé from France at the airport – we were inseparable for two weeks. Through the lessons, excursions and living together, I have met so many great people with whom I have been in contact to this day. A friend from Germany that I met there is now even nearby – we see each other regularly and remember our legendary time in New York.
My English? Definitely improved. I stayed from B2 to B2, but my self -confidence when speaking went through the ceiling. I learned: mistakes don't care – the main thing is that you talk!
In my free time I experienced so much-a Yankees game, the musical “Aladdin” on Broadway (absolute recommendation!) And countless walks through the city. My personal highlight? The sunset on the Empire State Building. First the sea of lights in daylight, then this magical moment when the city dives into a sea of lights – just wow.
Insider tip? Levain Bakery! The best cookies Ever – you have to try!
This trip was more than just a language trip – it was an adventure that shaped me. Of course there were moments when I missed my family, but compared to all the great memories they fade completely. The speaking English, campus life, the exciting experiences in a city that never sleeps – I miss all of this every day.
If you think about a language trip – do it! It will be the best decision of your life.
