Nature, nightlife and notes in Hawaii ‹ GO Blog

Leandro perfected his English for 2 months with EF Honolulu in the summer of 2022. He enjoyed his time so much that he has already planned his next language stay with EF.

School

The EF staff is very friendly, fair and sincere and most students are very open since they travel alone. My English has improved particularly through contact with international students and locals. At the beginning I was placed at a level where I felt under-challenged. When I asked the teacher about it, I was able to switch to a high level without any problems and enjoyed this linguistic challenge. The lessons are cozy and the coffee in the cafeteria was delicious and invites you to take a break. If you are open-minded and enjoy networking, you will definitely look forward to school and the activities afterwards every morning.

Accommodation

After my arrival I didn't feel well at first due to a cold and jet lag. I lived in the residence with three roommates. The building and the rooms did not meet my expectations or Swiss standards, but since I spent little time indoors, this hardly bothered me. My roommates were all German-speaking Swiss, which confused me, but we got along very well straight away. I was immediately impressed by the pleasant atmosphere on the EF Campus.

Leisure time

The beauty of Hawaii is indescribable. The nature is beautiful and the views on various hikes are unique. The cost of living in Waikiki is relatively high and I found it quite expensive despite cooking. I really enjoyed surfing there, even though I was often anxious. In Hawaii there are surf spots suitable for every level. In addition to hiking, surfing and idyllic beaches, I also went skydiving and enjoyed the nightlife. For the night-active over 21, there are various clubs in Waikiki and also good local options in Honolulu. For party enthusiasts under 21, there are also good options on the beach, in the residence or on the party bus. I spent many fun Hawaiian nights with students from all over the world.

My language stay with EF Honolulu was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life, which is why I will be traveling to Japan with EF this summer.
