Harini has grown beyond her limits and dared to do a bungee jump despite her fear of heights!
Harini lived and studied in Cape Town for three months, all during the ongoing Corona pandemic. Here she tells us how she liked it:
How was your trip to South Africa Cape Town?
I am incredibly excited about Cape Town. I liked it very much. The people were super friendly and everything was much cheaper than here in Switzerland.
I was able to improve my English a lot because I was allowed to speak English continuously. That brought me closer to my goal.
Why did you choose South Africa?
I chose South Africa because I didn’t just want to learn English, but also wanted to get to know the country.
Why did you choose EF?
My friends recommended EF to me. I received very friendly and helpful advice.
How was the arrival/departure?
EF Transport welcomed me and drove me to my host family. I thought that was great and can only be recommended. Leaving was sad for me, but I really enjoyed my 3 months in South Africa.
How was the induction day?
The school has an introductory day for new students every Monday. The team showed us around and showed us Bookap, museums etc. I thought it was great because they gave us tips and pointed out what to do less and what to keep in mind.
Why did you choose a host family?
I personally decided to stay with a host family because I really wanted to continue speaking English after school.
I would always choose a host family because you can always learn something new.
My host family was near Woodstock. My walk to school took about 45 minutes. I had about 25 minutes with the Mycitybus.
How did you experience your language stay in South Africa?
I’ve experienced a lot. Thanks to the EF app, I was able to plan activities with my friends after school or on weekends.
The best activity was the three days of Garden Route! You should definitely have done this. There I dared to go bungee jumping despite my fear of heights.
I also did the following activities:
• Elephant Walk
• Paragliding at Signal Hill
There were always free activities or clubs that you could join. So you could actually do almost anything.
What restrictions were there due to Covid-19?
As in Switzerland, masks were required. Before entering a restaurant, you also had to disinfect your hands thoroughly. However, you did not need a Covid certificate.
What is your best memory of your language stay in South Africa?
The many friends I was able to meet in South Africa. Also the activities we did together. I created memories that will last forever and that I will never forget.
